Distribution of Smart Vision Spectacles

Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai in collaboration with Rotary club of Madras, East, distributed a device named smart vision spectacles for people with blindness or vision impairment to improve the quality of life. It is a device incorporating artificial intelligence, machine vision and machine learning. At the function, Dr. P.Vijayalakshmi, Chief, Vision Rehabilitation Services, Aravind- Madurai welcomed the guests. Mrs. Jeyaseeli Flora, Rehabilitationist described the features and uses of smart vision spectacle. Rtn. Mr. Raguram Ramakrishnan and Mrs Sudha Raghuram Rotary Club, Madras East distributed the devices. Dr. P. Namperumalsamy and Mr. Thulasiraj Ravilla highlighted Aravind’s collaboration with Rotary clubs as early as 1970s.
Smart vision spectacles is manufactured by an expert team led by Mr. Ramu Muthanghi, CEO,SHG Technologies, Bangalore in cooperation with VISION AID, an NGO based in Boston, USA. The trial of the device was conducted at the Vision Rehabilitation centre, Aravind- Madurai by Mrs. Jeyaseeli Flora under the guidance of Dr. P. Vijayalakshmi. This light-weight and portable device is equipped with features to detect objects in the pathway; read texts in multiple Indian languages; recognise faces and many more functionalities which make the life of visually impaired much easier.
