National Eye Donation Fortnight 2021:Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai

Rotary Aravind International Eye Bank, Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai organised various programmes to observe the 36th National Eye Donation Fortnight. The programmes were mainly aimed to create awareness among targeted groups.
A photo booth was set up on the hospital premises motivating people to pledge their eyes. Virtual programmes involving various stakeholders were also organised and the details are as follows:
Eye Donation workshop was organised for the junior OT MLOPs of Aravind-Madurai. 70 MLOPs were trained in eye banking procedures.
Eye donation pledge movement was inaugurated in the presence of Dr.M.Srinivasan, Dr.R.D.Ravindran and Dr.Kim. Badges with message to motivate people for eye donation were released.
Eye donation pledge movements were organised at Government Medical College and Hospital, Theni on August 26; Government Medical College and Hospital, Dindigul on August 27 and Government Medical College and Hospital, Sivagangai on August 31 and Government Medical College and Hospital, Pudukkottai, on September 1. Dr.Balagirinathan, Dean, Government Medical College and Hospital, Theni and Dr.Ganapathy Rajesh, Chief, Ophthalmology department presided over the function at Theni Government Medical College Hospital. Dr.Suresh Babu, Medical Superintendent, Government Medical College and Hospital, Dindigul, Dr.Santhakumar,RMO , and Dr. Ravindran, Chief, Ophthalmology department presided over the function in Governmnet Medical College Hospital, Dindigul. At the function in Sivagangai, Dr.Revathi , Dean , Dr.Balamurugan ,Medical Superintendent, Dr.Rabbiq , RMO and Dr.Senthil ARMO and Dr.Rasiga , Chief, Ophthalmology department were the chief guests. At the function in Pudukkottai, Dr.Poovathi, Dean, Dr.Kalaiarasi, Vice Principal, Dr.Indirani, RMO and Dr.Thiyalnayagi, Chief, Ophthalmology department took part.
IEC materials about eye donation were distributed to the patients and their family members. Hospital staff, patients and their family members pledged their eyes and posed for photos in the photo booth.
D.Saravanan Manager, Rotary Aravind International Eye Bank participated as a Panelist and spoke on Advantages of whole globe and CS Rim at a webinar organized by LVPEI, Hyderabad on August 28.
Dr.M.Srinivasan, Director-Aravind Integrated Eye Bank Services participated as an expert panelist at the international webinar organised by Eye Bank Association of India, Hyderabad on August 29.
A virtual programme to create awareness on eye donation was organised in association with the Lions club of kumbakonam Host on August 30. About 30 Lions members took part.
A virtual programme to create awareness on eye donation was organised in collaboration with Lions club of Thiruvarur Araneri and Nethaji Subash Chandra Bose College, Thiruvarur. About 90 students and Lions members took part.
Eye donation awareness programme was organised in collaboration with Velammal Medical College and Hospital on September 3. Around 50 PGs, patients and their family members attended.
Mr. D.Saravanan participated as a panelist and spoke on Reviving HCRP locations in Covid era in a webinar organised by MGRC Sahiyara Eye bank, Mumbai.
A virtual programme to create awareness on eye donation was organised joining hands with Lions club of Karur Host and Morning Star School, Karur. 80 students and Lions members actively participated.
Eye donation awareness programme and eye donation pledge movement was organised at Deputy Director of Health Services office, Madurai. Senior officials – Dr Senthil kumar; Dr.Arun Sundareswaran; Dr.Chandru; Dr.pon parthipan; Dr.Fahad; Dr. Sankar and Mr Muthuvel presided over the programme. Staff of DDHS office actively participated.
