Madurai Corporation Signs MoU with Aravind Eye Hospital for Free Student Eye Check-ups

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai, and Madurai City Corporation to benefit nearly 17,000 students studying in Corporation schools across the district. The MoU was formally exchanged between Chitra Vijayan, Corporation Commissioner, and Dr. P. Vijayalakshmi, Chief, Paediatric Ophthalmology Services, Aravind–Madurai.
In previous years, free eye check-ups and diagnoses were conducted, but in a random and irregular manner. To make this initiative more systematic and sustainable, the MoU ensures that free eye examinations will be conducted for students in 64 Corporation schools over the next five years. In addition, free spectacles will be provided to students who require them. By reaching students directly, the collaboration aims to broaden the scope of early detection of eye problems.
