Viva Voce at AMRF
AMRF, 6 & 17 April 2026
Saraswathi K, Research Scholar, AMRF defended her thesis titled “Molecular characterisation of ocular lymphoma for improved disease prognosis”, during the viva voce held on 6th April 2026, submitted to Alagappa University.
Similarly, Iswarya R, Research Scholar, Department of Immunology & Stem Cell Biology, AMRF, defended her thesis titled “Human adult stem cell-derived small extracellular vesicles for trabecular meshwork regeneration in glaucoma”, during the viva voce held on 17th April 2026, also submitted to Alagappa University.
Both events were held at the LAICO Auditorium and were attended by scientists and staff members from AMRF, along with participants from LAICO.
Mini Symposium on Eye Health and Diabetes
AMRF, 30th March 2026
As part of the 50th Jubilee Year Celebration of the Aravind, AMRF organised a mini symposium designed for postgraduates in Life Sciences, Biotechnology, and Pharmaceutical Sciences. The programme offered them an in-depth understanding of the critical links between diabetes and eye disorders, along with current and emerging clinical perspectives, while emphasising the importance of preventing eye complications associated with diabetes.
The session began with an introductory note by Dr. S. Senthilkumari, Convenor, followed by the inaugural address by Prof. K. Dharmalingam, Director – Research, AMRF. The symposium featured invited talks that covered broad perspectives on diabetes and its associated ocular complications. Dr. Anand Annamalai, Endocrinologist, Ashwin Hospital, Madurai, presented on the fundamental understanding of diabetes. An overview of diabetes-associated complications such as glaucoma and retinal diseases was provided by clinicians.
The role of Artificial Intelligence in the diagnosis of diabetic retinopathy was highlighted by Dr. R. Kim. Dr. A. Vanniarajan, Scientist, Molecular Genetics, AMRF, Dr. D. Bharanidharan, Scientist, Microbiology, AMRF, and Dr. Daipayan Banerjee, Scientist, Proteomics, AMRF, spoke on the basic research contributions of AMRF.
The symposium was attended by postgraduates from various institutions in and around Madurai. There was also representation from Alagappa University, Karaikudi, and Kalasalingam University, Krishnankoil.
