At Aravind, not only Women’s Day but every occasion is an opportunity to honour its women employees, who constitute nearly 85% of its workforce. Over the past five decades, their dedication to the noble mission of eliminating needless blindness has transformed the communities they serve through effective delivery of high-quality eye care. Aravind deeply values their contributions and supports them through various well-being initiatives and life-skill development programmes that benefit both their personal and professional lives. To celebrate this cadre of the workforce, a range of engaging activities were organised across all Aravind centres on International Women’s Day with great pride.
Aravind-Coimbatore has supported AOPs in pursuing higher education by introducing three-year degree courses through a Distance Education Programme, an initiative aimed at strengthening women employees’ career prospects.
Aravind has initiated a large-scale epidemiological study to evaluate the effectiveness of Vision Centres in reducing the prevalence of visual impairment in rural southern India, through a comparative assessment of communities served versus non-served by VCs. The study is being conducted across seven districts in Tamil Nadu: Dindigul, Karur, Madurai, Pudukkottai, Sivagangai, Tiruchirappalli, and Virudhunagar. Its findings will be instrumental in guiding future scale-up efforts and strengthening advocacy for community-based eye care models.
At the 84th Annual Conference of the All-India Ophthalmological Society (AIOS) 2026, a large number of Aravind doctors, fellows, and DNB residents participated – presenting papers and posters, actively sharing their knowledge and experience. Several of them received awards across various categories.
This edition features news and updates on these and many other initiatives carried out up to 25th March 2026, along with a few updates from previous months that were not included earlier.
