New Delhi, 7-9 August 2026

Dr. N. Venkatesh Prajna, Chief, Cornea & Refractive Surgery Services, Aravind-Madurai, participated in the Annual Conference of the Indian Society of Cornea & Keratorefractive Surgeons (ISCKRS MEET 2026), held at Hotel Le Meridien, Windsor Place, New Delhi. As part of the conference, he delivered the prestigious Madan Mohan Cornea Oration on the topic “Eminence versus Evidence.”

Awards at the 3rd State-Level Silambam Competition 2026

Aravind-Chennai, 2nd August 2026
AOPs from Aravind-Chennai demonstrated their talent and dedication, securing gold, silver, and bronze medals in various events at the 3rd State-Level Silambam Competition 2026, organised by the Aivar Veerakalai Sangam Tamil Nadu at TAAC School, Metha Nagar, Kundrathur, Chennai. A total of eleven AOPs participated in the competition through the “My Life, My Pride” initiative

Awards at the 73rd Annual Conference of the Tamil Nadu Ophthalmic Association (TNOA) – 2026

Coimbatore, 31st July to 2nd August 2026
Aravind doctors won several awards at the 73rd Annual Conference of the Tamil Nadu Ophthalmic Association (TNOA) – 2026, held at the CODISSIA Trade Fair Complex, Coimbatore.

A major highlight of the conference was the conferment of the TNOA Lifetime Achievement Award on Dr. R.D. Ravindran, Chairman, Aravind Eye Care System (AECS), in recognition of his distinguished contributions to ophthalmology. While, Dr. D. Chandrasekhar was also honoured with the TNOA Joseph Gnanadickam Gold Medal Oration Award for his outstanding contributions to the field of ophthalmology.

Prizes at the Tiger Conservation Day Event

Aravind-Tirunelveli, 29th July 2026
Three AOPs from Aravind-Tirunelveli participated in a storytelling competition organised by the District Science Centre, Tirunelveli, in connection with Tiger Conservation Day. Sr. M. Kokila, a first-year Refraction employee, secured the Second Prize for her impressive storytelling presentation. The other participants were also recognised for their enthusiastic involvement and received participation certificates and consolation prizes.

Tamil Nadu Medical Council Award

Dr. V. R. Saravanan, Chief, Retina & Vitreous Services, Aravind-Coimbatore, was honoured with the Tamil Nadu Medical Council Award for Professional Excellence in the Medical Field. The award recognises his valuable contribution and dedication to the field of eye care.

Award for Academic Excellence on Doctors' Day

Coimbatore, 26th July 2026

Dr. V. R. Saravanan was honoured with the Award for Academic Excellence by the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Coimbatore Branch, in recognition of his contributions to medical education and patient care, on the occasion of Doctors’ Day. The award was presented at a function held at the IMA Hall, Coimbatore, in the presence of doctors and IMA members.

Awards at the 32nd Annual Meeting of the Indian Eye Research Group ARVO-INDIA 2026

Hyderabad, 24-26 July 2026

Research scholars from the Aravind Medical Research Foundation (AMRF) participated in ARVO-INDIA 2026, the 32nd Annual Meeting of the Indian Eye Research Group, held at the L.V. Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI), Hyderabad.

Thusmitha Prakash and Kanthimathi R. from the Department of Immunology and Stem Cell Biology received the Best Floor Presentation Award for their research presentations. Four scholars—S. Hari Vignesh, Shiva Sankari Sundar, Kanthimathi R., and Thusmitha Prakash—were awarded travel grants in recognition of their research contributions.

In addition, Thusmitha Prakash and Kanthimathi R. received the Young Investigator Award for Best Platform Presentation. Thusmitha Prakash was recognised for her paper, “Single-nucleus RNA-sequencing data analysis identified stem-like populations in adult human lens,” while Kanthimathi R. received the award for her paper, “Spatial transcriptomics reveals adult human retinal pigment epithelium stem cells to be confined in the CMZ and peripheral region.”

Assessor for DNB Teaching Permission Inspection
