CME on Care Beyond Cure: A Low Vision Community Meetup

The Department of Low Vision Aids, Aravind-Madurai, organised a CME programme on “Care Beyond Cure: A Low Vision Community Meetup” to create awareness about education, career opportunities, and rehabilitation services for persons with severe visual impairments.
The programme began with a prayer, followed by a welcome address by Dr. R. Kim, CMO, Aravind-Madurai. Dr. Vijayalakshmi P., Chief, Department of Low Vision Aids, set the context by highlighting the challenges of severe visual impairment. The Chief Guest, Dr. P. Senthil Kumar, IAS, Hon’ble Additional Chief Secretary, Government of Tamil Nadu, addressed the gathering via video conference from Chennai. The Guests of Honour, Rtn. R. Raja Govindasamy, Director, Mannar Thirumalai Naicker College, Madurai, and Immediate Past District Governor, Rotary International District 3000, and V. L. Narasimhan, Executive Director, Vision Aids India, shared valuable insights on low vision aids and their importance. Dr. G. Natchiar delivered a motivational address, and the dignitaries distributed smart vision glasses to patients.
The event featured inspiring addresses, skill-building sessions, and the distribution of innovative assistive devices to foster independence and community support. Additionally, informative stalls from various organisations showcased low vision assistive technologies. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. B. Sahithya, Head of the Dep., Vision Rehabilitation Centre, Aravind-Madurai. The event was attended by over 350 participants, including visually challenged patients, families, social workers, and students.
