Specular Microscope and Accessories to Rotary Aravind International Eye Bank (RAIEB)

The Rotary Club of Madurai West, in association with the Rotary Club of Freshwater Bay, Australia, and with a matching grant from The Rotary Foundation, donated a specular microscope and accessories, including a slit-lamp machine, computer system, centrifuge, and photocopier – worth Rs. 35 lakhs to the Rotary Aravind International Eye Bank, Madurai. The equipment was commissioned by Holger Knaack, Past President of Rotary International and Trustee Chair of The Rotary Foundation.

During the formal occasion, Palaniappan, President, Rotary Club, Madurai West, delivered the welcome address. Dr. N. Venkatesh Prajna, and Dr. M. Srinivasan, explained the process of eye retrieval, evaluation for transplantation, and the growth and development of the eye bank, which was established in 1998 with Rotary support. Raja Govindasamy, Past District Governor, and the primary contact for the project, expressed gratitude to Aravind for the opportunity to serve. The programme was attended by Aravind doctors and around 30 Rotary members.
