Aravind-Madurai, 4th October 2025

Organised by Aravind-Madurai, the workshop marked an important milestone in Aravind’s ongoing efforts to enhance the quality and performance of Vision Centre services across its growing network. Planned, coordinated, and facilitated by the Central Office Vision Centre (VC) team, the programme focused on equipping participants with the knowledge, tools, and methodologies required to conduct skill assessments locally. Participants were also trained to mentor and evaluate Vision Centre teams, ensuring consistent quality standards in service delivery.

The workshop brought together 25 participants, including Assessors, Senior Vision Technicians, and Vision Centre Clinical Coordinators from Madurai, Theni, Tirunelveli, Coimbatore, Pondicherry, Salem, and Chennai.

The programme emphasised that the rapid expansion of Vision Centres necessitates decentralising the assessment process and conducting evaluations directly at the respective base hospitals. This approach aimed to build local capacity for regular training, skill assessment, and certification of Vision Centre personnel.

Participants expressed confidence in implementing the new model, which was expected to strengthen capacity at the base level, ensure continuous skill development, and further improve the quality and effectiveness of Vision Centre services across the Aravind network.

Prior to the workshop, two virtual meetings with Vision Centre in-charge staff were conducted to identify specific training and assessment needs, helping to tailor the workshop content to real-world challenges.

As a next step, the Central Team would be providing follow-up support, including the deployment of a senior trainer at each base hospital to guide the first round of decentralised skill assessments.
