Workshop on Strengthening Hospital-Based Intervention to Enhance Effective Eye Care Coverage
LAICO, 2-3 October 2026
As Part of October Summit LAICO organised a two-day workshop bringing together hospital leaders and eye care professionals to strengthen hospital-based interventions towards achieving the WHO 2030 targets for Effective Cataract Surgical Coverage (eCSC) and Effective Refractive Error Coverage (eREC).
The workshop focused on identifying gaps in effective eye care coverage and developing practical strategies to improve access to quality cataract surgical and refractive error services. Participating teams developed customised implementation plans to address key challenges, including improving patient counselling and treatment acceptance, strengthening follow-up care and quality monitoring, expanding access to refraction and optical services across base hospitals, vision centres, and outreach programmes, and leveraging data for continuous quality improvement.
By the end of the workshop, participating institutions had identified priority interventions, outlined specific action points, and established implementation timelines suited to their respective settings. These plans will serve as practical roadmaps for enhancing effective eye care coverage, strengthening service delivery, and contributing to the achievement of the WHO 2030 targets.
