Aravind Eye Hospital, Dindigul

Dindigul situated seventy kilometers north of Madurai is a city bustling with several industries such as safety lock manufacturing, tannery and textile industries apart from agricultural trading and banking.  With a steady increase in the number of patients from this city and the surrounding areas, Aravind-Dindigul was inaugurated in a rented building in September 2010. Now, this compact facility is operating to its full capacity. Land has been purchased for building a larger facility to accommodate the increasing demand. Building will begin once the plan is approved.

In the year ending March 2019, Aravind – Dindigul handled around 77,350 outpatient visits and performed around 6,750 surgeries

Vision centres are small, permanent facilities that provide eye care services to remote and rural communities. Manned by ophthalmic technicians, these telemedicine-assisted centres allow patients in rural areas to consult ophthalmologists at the base hospital, thus eliminating the need for patients to travel to hospital (unless more advanced treatment is needed).

Vision centres in Dindigul district are managed by Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai, Theni and Udumalpet.
