As part of expanding eye care services to the needy, Aravind opened a tertiary centre in Salem in 2011. The hospital serves people from Salem, Namakkal, Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri. The 75 bed hospital sprawls an area of 42,000 sq.ft and provides all the speciality services in eye care. The hospital is an accredited teaching institution.
In the year ending March 2019, Aravind- Salem handled around 180,650 outpatient visits and performed around 21,470 surgeries.

Manned by ophthalmic technicians, these telemedicine-assisted centres allow patients in rural areas to consult ophthalmologists at the base hospital, thus eliminating the need for patients to travel to hospital (unless more advanced treatment is needed).
